What is involved in doing a tune-up?
Replace nozzle, oil filter, and pump screen
Check pressure and cutoff on fuel pump
Check fuel pump and circulator couplings
Check, clean and adjust electrodes
Vacuum unit
Clean and tighten flue pipes
Clean chimney base
Oil motors and bearing assemblies
Clean burner fan, blower and cabinetry
Check fan belt and bearings for wear
Check all motors for amp draw
Replace or clean air filters
Check voltage on transformer
Check Cad-cell eye
Check safeties - primary relay, fan high limit, aquastat high limit and test relief valves
Outside tanks- check for the presence of water
Service humidifier (if present)
Repalce Scul-tel battery
Draft at Breech - This measures the draft going up your chimney. If the draft is too weak, it may not vent combustion products properly. If it's too strong, valuable heat will be pulled out of your home. Optimum - .04"
Draft Overfire % - A measurement of the air going through your heating unit. Optimum - .02"
CO2% - Testing carbon dioxide shows how air tight your heating system is - Optimum 10% to 12%
Stack Temperature - This measures how much heat is going up through the chimney instead of into your home. Optimum Between 350° and 600°.
Smoke - Smoke indicates whether or not all of the fuel is being turned into heat when burned in the combustion process. Smoke also forms a layer of buildup, which reduces efficiency. Optimum 0 or trace amounts.
Total Efficiency - This rating combines the above readings to give an overall efficiency rating of your unit. If the reading is too low, it may be time to replace your system. 80% is considered good, 76-80% is fair, and less than 76% is poor.
When should I have a tune-up done?
There is no "best time" to have your equipment serviced. The important thing is to have it done properly and on an annual basis. You don't have to wait until the first frost to be prepared for next winter. Call us for an appointment today.
We also offer an Automatic Tune Up Program where we will call you to let you know when you are due for the tune-up. We do this at the same time every year. To sign up email us at info@riversidegas.com.
